Last week I was in, what I think, is one of the best vintage
shops north of the border. Down South, there are just so many more,
meaning more competition, therefore the prices are much lower.
In Scotland most vintage shops are overpriced. They are good,
sometimes very good but always overpriced. We all just accept it
and pay more.
It was a pleasant surprise to find a shop breaking this trend
on Portobello High Street in Edinburgh. Molly Sugars has been
open for 6 months and seems to be doing very well. The women
running the shop was incredibly warm and helpful. I was with
three others and we all got something lovely. The guys stuff
was really, really good which was another bonus as this is an
area often neglected. The layout of the shop was very inviting.
Upstairs was bright and open but there was a little
winding staircase leading to a warmly lit den in the
basement. There was everything I could hope for in a vintage
shop and it was VERY reasonably priced.
