SUPERCLUB / STOCKHOLM / SUPERMARKET

Supermarket is Stockholm's Independent Art Fair. Superclub is an artist-run gallery, project space and working
studio based in Edinburgh. Superclub asked my friends Rickie and Jamie McNeil to represent them in Stockholm.
I went along because I love them, I love their work and I predicted I would love Stockholm. I was right. It ended
up being a truly amazing week. The art fair was held in The Kulturhuset which is a huge cultural centre right in
the heart of Stockholm. They took over two floors and had around 80 artists exhibiting. It was an incredible
place to be. Rickie and Jamie produced 70(or so) A3 sized collaborative collages which were photocopied full size
and then wallpaperpasted on to the 3 walls. Over which they hung 4 framed drawings. Their space was brave and
distinct and I am sure everyone who walked through it would agree.

Stockholm vintage shops

The vintage shops in Stockholm were incredible. There was such a varied selection and not much stuff I didn't want,
which made for an expensive trip. The second picture down is the shirt that got away. I had to choose between two and
I think I made the right decision but I will always think fondly of this bad ass Saved By The Bell shirt. This Beyond
Retro is fairly near the centre of Stockholm, about a ten minute walk from the main train station. Address is below.

Show Report - Holly Fulton

The distinctive, Victorian lead-framed, high arched windows of the oldest glasshouse at the Royal Botanics in Edinburgh
inspired Holly Fulton this season. Her Mum works at the Botanic Gardens and, of course, she is originally from Edinburgh
so this incredible glasshouse is quite a sentimental place for Holly.

When you think of the Botanic Gardens you think of glass panelled windows, the heat, the colourful flowers and plants
and sometimes if you're lucky some butterflies.

All of these things were evident in the new collection. Holly restricted her palette this year, using multiple tones
of one colour by layering shapes which very much resembled the mullions of the windows of the Edinburgh Glasshouse.
The heat was apparent in her designs with plunging backs on the dresses, making you think of a hot summer day.
The main colours in this collection were teal blue and fuchsia pink, the colours you would expect tropical flowers
and plants to be.

Butterflies were out on show too, not only printed on the fabric, but Holly created an amazing neckline which was made by
linking lots of cut out butterflies together. Kind of like a paper chain you would make at school to hang on your classroom
wall. It was beautiful.

All the emphasis of pink and butterflies makes the collection sound very feminine but it had a very appropriate masculine twist.
The tailoring of the jackets and trousers were straight lined and slightly square, like that of a man's suit jacket.
The clutches were also quite large and angular, slightly like a man's briefcase. I think the balance between masculine and
feminine was perfect.

There were glimmers of metallic and silver sparkles throughout the show but the best was saved for last. An armour like crop
top layered over a teal and black dress was the last outfit on the runway and it was an appropriate end to an incredible show.

After the show I got the chance to interview Holly. I had arrived back from Stockholm the night before the show and thought
some of Holly's pieces resembled clean cut, angular Swedish style. I asked her if any particular city or country had inspired her
new collection and I was pleasantly surprised by her answer. She said that her main inspiration was in fact Edinburgh and the
Botanics. It is nice to know somewhere so close to home has inspired such an exciting collection.

London Fashion Week

Last week I wrote a post called 'Fashion as it happens'. It was actually for a competition for Grazia magazine.
My lovely friend Joni suggested I enter it, so I did. I really enjoyed writing it but didn't really think anything
would come of it. After a morning of shopping in Stockholm I was sitting eating lunch and I got an email saying I
had been picked as one of the three finalist. So pretty much it is very exciting. I have won an iPad and I get to
go to a show at London Fashion Week.

I arrive home from Stockholm on Monday night and am heading straight to get a sleeper train to London. I am going to
the Holly Fulton show on the Tuesday afternoon. I then have to write a report on the show and it will be shown on the
Grazia website for people to vote for their favourite.

I am very excited and completely overwhelmed. Obviously the most important thing is what the hell I am going to wear!
I have already bought quite a few things here in Stockholm to pick from so I am sure I'll be fine.

So far in Stockholm I have been very aware of how simply everyone dresses. I havent seen very many patterns or bold prints
so I am very much looking forward to seeing Holly Fulton's new range which I am sure will impress on the colour/print side.

Kocksgaten 17

Yesterday I had a wonderful day of shopping in Stockholm. We went to an area called
Sodermalm which was pretty much my dream area. Lots of incredible shops, both boutiques
and vintage. On top of that, the cafes and restaurants were gorgeous. All the
buildings are lovely warm autumnal colours, which look incredible against the crisp
white snow and blue sky.

This shop was called Kocksgaten 17. It was so so beautiful inside, the interiors were
spectacular. Neil Young music on, a lovely man to welcome us in from the cold and ask
where we were from and why we were here. All in all a lovely experience, we didn't buy
anything but that is only because we are on a budget!

I am sure I have posted this before but I love it so much I have to post again.
It is the perfect song for a group of Scots recovering from a night in Stockholm.

Stockholm

I arrived in Stockholm this morning. I am here with friends who are showing their work at
Stockholms Independent Art Fair. They are busy setting up just now, I am very excited to
see how they are getting on. It is very very snowy outside but utterly beautiful.

Today

Today I did a photo shoot in my flat with two friends. My friend Andy is at art school and this
is part of a brief he is doing which I think will be amazing. My other friend Greig is a photographer
who is also studying and he is pretty amazing at taking pictures. All I had to do was put on a bunch
of clothes and stand on some tape all day. We listened to good music and had lots of fun.
